Message from Director General
Biotechnology is an area of applied sciences with high innovation potential. The tools of biotechnology provide solutions to the challenges faced by mankind in a resource-scarce world. It is a promising area of strategic investment for the creation of knowledge-driven ecosystems, economic wealth and highly skilled resources. Some of the top-ranking disruptive technologies in the field of environmental remediation, advanced materials, industrial processes and life sciences have biotechnology interventions.
Gujarat has been one of the pioneering policy-driven states fostering growth of biotechnology through proactive governance, institutional development, sound infrastructure, investment promotion and industry-friendly initiatives. To boost the growth of biotechnology industry in the state, there is a need for product pipeline and demand for scientific manpower trained in advanced biotechnology tools and techniques.
To achieve these objectives, Gujarat Biotechnology University is established under the Gujarat Biotechnology University Act 2018. The Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat is providing the leadership, infrastructure and funding and has developed a visionary collaboration with the University of Edinburgh (UoE), ranked 20th via Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2020.
Gujarat Biotechnology University is committed to playing a key role in multidisciplinary facets of biotechnology around 5 main domains including Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology and Industrial Biotechnology through its postgraduate and PhD programmes. The university will be initiating research programmes as well as several educational and training activities looking forward to collaborations from scientists, technologists, and academicians across the globe.
The fundamental aim of its inception is to provide an enabling ecosystem to promote biotechnology through translational research and product innovation. It will help in creating a base of scientific & technical manpower, needed for growth and promotion of science.
Budding young talent can take the advantage of the completely new research-driven biotech programme and explore the unlimited opportunities in the sector.
